Friendship and partnership woven together ~ Threaded together ~ like the most beautiful fabric…
Threaded Boutique was born from the joining of two dreams. Janie O’Brien had always dreamed of opening her own boutique, and Marla Odom was eager to start her own business. In 2017 the pair had been friends for 15 years, attending church together, shopping and traveling together, and even raising kids at the same time. Early that year, Marla approached her long-time friend with the idea of opening an online boutique. Janie quickly got on board and they began by launching a website, social media accounts, and scheduling trunk shows. In December 2017, Janie and Marla took a huge step and opened the first Threaded Boutique retail location in Decatur, AL. Located in the heart of downtown, the 500 square-foot office space on the second floor of a beautiful established building was just what they needed to create the warm, inviting shopping experience that is Threaded. The exposed brick, wooden floors, and big window overlooking Bank Street was the perfect setting for their growing business.
The character of that space helped to make Threaded successful, but the need for a storefront location and more space was quickly realized. Bank Street felt like home, so in February of 2019 the beautiful renovation and move to the current location of 710 Bank Street NE was completed. With over 1200 square feet of space and two large, ever-changing window display areas, Threaded Boutique offers a charming and welcoming environment you will want to visit over and over again.
But the moving of location was not the final change of Threaded. In July of 2022, Marla and Janie decided it was time to part ways with their baby and chose to sell the store to a Decatur local, Margaret South. It was never in the plans for the two of them to part ways with the boutique, they loved the store and working alongside with one another. But family comes first and the women decided they wanted more time with their children and husbands. The Lord perfectly orchestrated the transfer of ownership and the boutique is still running on Bank Street.
Meet the owners
Margaret South was born and raised in Decatur, AL, coming from a family of Entrepreneurs. She grew up running around the streets of Downtown Decatur right where Threaded is located. Her Mother and Aunt had two local business, Memi's & Sam Frank and Moore, selling various forms of art and gifts. She watched her mother give back to downtown and knew she wanted to do the same thing one day.
After attending Auburn University and deciding to finish her degree online, Margaret moved back home. Struggling to find direction, the Lord opened doors that she never expected. At the age of 21, Margaret became the new owner of Threaded Boutique and hasn't looked back. She has several ideas and new factors she is bringing to the atmosphere and several more to come in the future. She is beyond grateful for the guidance and the trust instilled in her by both Janie and Marla. Her dreams of owning her own business has finally become a reality due to the never ending support of her family, friends, and customers.
